WHAT WE OFFER
Girls on Hills offers group courses and bespoke adventures in the four activity areas listed below.
Our events are predominantly located in the Glen Coe/Lochaber area, though some are further afield in the Cairngorms, Snowdonia and Lake District National Parks.
Join our group courses to learn new skills and meet likeminded runners. For personal challenges, skills development, running holidays or small groups, get in touch about booking a bespoke adventure with us. This approach allows you to set the date of your run and has the added value of a flexible itinerary.
COURSE TYPES
Trail Running
Girls on Hills offers a range of women-only guided trail running weekends to suit all abilities. These include guided trail running, hill/fell running and ultrarunning, as well as some specialist single-day skills courses such as ascending/descending skills and running with poles. In winter we offer a Winter Trail Running course (single day) to demo the use of poles and microspikes for exploring remote/upland trails in winter conditions.
You can hire a Girls on Hills guide for a guided run or mountain objective at any time (and you don’t need to be female to hire one of our guides!)
We can also guide recces of trail, hill and fell race routes in the area, to give you the inside track on race day!
Girls on Hills support a number of external workshops and retreats.
Skyrunning
Girls on Hills offers two levels of women-only skyrunning courses (Introduction and Improver), which includes coaching on technical mountain running and easy/graded scrambling by experienced and professionally qualified female guides.
Our skyrunning guides are also available for 1-to-1 guiding or group bookings upon request – just name your challenge - and you don’t need to be female to hire one of our guides!
Girls on Hills is the official and exclusive provider of recce events for Salomon Skyline Scotland to include the Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace™, Salomon Glencoe Skyline® and Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra™, as well as the full collection of trail races (including the NEW Lochaber 80 ultra).
Bespoke adventures and Skyline Scotland recce events are open to both men and women:
Hill Walking
Girls on Hills offers a series of guided hill walks (known as the ‘classics’) in Glen Coe and the Cairngorms, which are suitable for all abilities. We also run a My First Munro weekend; a mountain safety course for women seeking to learn new skills and build greater confidence in taking control of map-reading and route-finding - with the aim of becoming more independent in the hills!
In winter (Jan-Mar), our popular Winter Skills 101 courses, cover the use of ice-axe and crampons for walking in the beautiful but challenging winter mountains!
Our guides are available for 1-to-1 guiding or group bookings to suit your diary at all times of year – just get in touch! We guide walks in the Glencoe/Lochaber area, Cairngorms, North Wales and Lake District. We also run monthly navigation courses which are suitable for hill-walkers of all abilities (see below). You don’t need to be female to hire one of our guides!
Navigation
Girls on Hills offer monthly Navigation Essentials courses in Glencoe, aimed at beginner-intermediate level hillwalkers or runners. These also run occasionally out of Aviemore in the Cairngorms. All our navigation skills courses are women-only.
To refresh or progress your existing navigation skills get in touch to book an instructor for a bespoke skills day – and you don’t need to be female to hire one of our guides!
